Would you buy a flat with no built in wardrobes?

In our main bedroom we have built in wardrobes, they were there when we moved in and they've been there around 25 years. They are on an outside wall and outside of the wall there are stairs to the flat upstairs.
Whatever we store in the wardrobe, or at least the floor part, ends up covered in mould and everything smells mouldy/musty. There is mould growth on the back wall as well, even though the walls have been painted with anti mould paint. We think it happens because the walls are so cold and it's condensation that causes the mould.

I hate these wardrobes and would love to rip them out, but the question begs would we be able to sell the flat without built in wardrobes when we come to sell or would people look for built ins. Ideally I'd like to rip out the ones that are there and get new ones built along an inside wall in the room. But if this was too costly we'd maybe just buy freestanding ones.

Yep. They will see (if you have them up) there is room for wardrobes

Yes, I did when I was young. I have now bought a house with built-in wardrobes in several rooms and am in the process of removing those on outside walls .

I'd see it as a positive. We've got built-in wardrobes in our house and I really dislike them

yes remove, they are space saving but also boring, now there is so much choice of bedroom furniture that goes ceiling to floor with different ways of hanging and storing inside, let the new people decide, if they want they can put them in built in themselves.

Yes, definitely. In fact the first thing I did when we moved into our current flat was rip out the built-ins.

Your flat will look much bigger with them gone, anyway.

Yes. I don't like (most) built-in wardrobes anyway.

Yes, most built-in wardrobes are horrible and in the wrong place so it wouldn't bother me at all (although I would be a bit if there was no sign of any storage at all - built-in or freestanding).

I prefer free-standing furniture so it wouldn't bother me, in fact I would prefer it unless the built-in wardrobe was very new.

Wardrobes wouldn't be a deal breaker either way tbh but damp would.

Yes I would. You can always put them in yourself if you were desperate to have them.

I'm with headfairy, it's small fry. They are only really useful if you are very short of storage space anyway.
