Building work during year 11: stupid idea?

DS and I live in a terraced house with a downstairs bathroom, located beyond a tiny 'galley' kitchen. The bathroom is in a flat roofed extension that leaks during heavy rain, so something needs to be done about it. I am thoroughly fed up of traipsing downstairs for a pee in the middle of the night.

I'd really like to move the bathroom upstairs and extend the kitchen, and after 10 years of saving I finally have enough money to do it. However, DS has an important year ahead and I'm worried that 3 months of building work may affect his school work.

Has anyone had comparable work done during GCSEs? Can it be done? Any tips?

Shouldn't take three months, it sounds fairly straightforward and how much will it affect him anyway? He will be at school when the builders are there and I'm assuming he doesn't do the lion's share of the cooking. Pita not to have a bathroom for however long but not the end of the world, shouldn't impact his exams.

As long as it's not taking place immediately before and during his exams I would think it would be fine.

Thank you! That's reassuring. I just know that living with building work can be hell, even for a relatively short period of time, but hopefully it should be possible to avoid the exam period.
