Low pressure taps - recommendations please!

I have a ridiculously low hot water pressure upstairs - the hot water tank is in my bedroom, and the cold is in the loft, so there's a massive difference in pressure. I've had a new bathroom fitted and I need a decent mixer tap for the basin, as the one I have spits out a pathetic little dribble of hot water and isn't useable, but needs to be a mixer tap as there's only one hole drilled in the sink. Bath taps are individual ones, and are not too bad, but could still be better.

I don't have a very big budget non existent if I'm honest! so would like recommendations for taps that are fairly cheap and cheerful. Some say suitable from 0.2 bar but what does that actually mean?

We have low pressure hot water in our bathroom and have Grohe Eurosmart - think we paid about £70. We found our choices were limited though, not many mixers for low pressure.

I think you can get taps that look like mixers (i.e. only one hole) but don't actually mix IYSWIM but I may be wrong.

Just filled a jug out of the hot in the bathroom sink and got 2 litres in a minute, but it wasn't even running warm by then. The bath and kitchen taps run red hot almost straight away.

PigletJohn, how do I work out the pressure from that please? Really don't want to have to replace the basin if I can help it as have pretty much run out of funds and the list of jobs this bloody money pit needs doing is getting longer and longer!

you can calculate the pressure by measuring the height difference between the tap and the water level in the tank.

10 metres is 1bar (near enough exact)
so 2 metres is 0.2 bar.

But the flow is of more interest, for a bath or sink tap. 2 litres per minute is poor. Mixer taps, especially if they have ceramic disks (quarter-turn knob, or a joystick) and especially if they have tails (the short pipe on the tap that connects to the waterpipe) the size of a pencil, and especially if they have ball-o-fix service valves or braided flexible connectors, will suffer obstructed flow.

A 2-hole basin will probably cost you less than a fancy mixer, and do more good.

A British pillar tap will give best flow. Bristan make the best.

What colour is your hot cylinder? Post a pic. Is the top a dome, with one pipe coming out of it?
