Paint my kitchen! (Please)

Moved into our new home in July. One of the main reasons for buying was the lovely sized kitchen...but...it's cream and I'm really not that keen.

Will put photos on the next post. It's a Howdens kitchen. Cream painted cupboards with a wooden countertop (oiled not stained). There is a centre island that has a dark brown marble top. The walls are cream/magnolia and the floor is pale beige marble.

The issue I have is the blue Aga. Otherwise I don't suppose it would matter what colour I painted the cabinets (I've always liked that pale green colour that seems popular now). I was thinking about a pale blue, but I think that would make the room cold?

The cupboards need painting no matter what (they are dirty and paint has worn in some places), and I could just go for cream again, but I don't really want to. I am forever cleaning and it's driving me batty.

I just cannot 'see' what would work. Decorating really isn't a speciality Grin. I'll be getting someone in to do it rather than botching it myself, but I could do with some paint ideas.

Thanks muchly Smile

dulux have an app that lets you 'paint' photographs - might be a good way to try before you buy ! a good painter should be able to paint the kitchen insitu - I had mine fine last week ( I went from blue to Moles breath and White !) first pic is the newly painted cabinets and second pic was the paint effect with the app !!!

One Plan - I'm after that app too! Thanks for the tip off.

EveDallas - our last kitchen had an Aga the same colour. Our units were oak, the floor was oak (we inherited this - not quite my style...), the skirtings etc were white, but the walls were a wonderful 'soft greek blue' colour. It really lifted the kitchen and I just loved it. It was a south facing kitchen so got a lot of light.

Check out Dulux Sea Blue and Atlantic surf 3 as possibles - either as wall colours or as cupboard colours. You could go for the dark version of either of those for base units, and then a paler version for the top ones...?

(Hope that helps you in return for your fab help on 'Faggots' last week!)

Thank you :)

Well I have tried what feels like 100 different colour combinations, and I can't find one I like. I am wondering now whether to paint the walls rather than the cupboards. I do quite like Sea Blue on the main wall.

That app is great. It seems I just don't like colours.

The sort of chalky mid blue Of Cornishware sprang to mind.

You may not need the blue on every wall. I'd maybe paint one, and live with it. (HATE the phrase "Feature Wall") Grin

Are you sure it's a Howden's kitchen - it looks custom built?

I think a misty blue grey (more grey than blue) would tone in with the Aga and probably be OK with the cream walls, and look nice with the natural wood and marble. There are so many strong colours and warm textures to balance the blue, it's unlikely to suddenly make a sunny room "cold". If you ask for a good quality eggshell paint to be used it should wipe down OK.

You know, I don't know for sure. Some of the cupboards have a Howdens stamp inside. But I do know she had an independent kitchen designer and she gave me the number of "the guy that did the kitchen in case you want to change anything". I just assumed the whole lot came from Howdens.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of a grey/blue. I'll have a look at that, thank you.

If you struggle putting colours together, design-seeds is great for ideas. In the end pick something that you love that goes with the room and style of your house, furniture , china etc.
