We've got an odd shaped room and we've not sure where to place the sofa, tv etc. Are there any guidelines for clueless people?

it's quite ok to 'float ' your furniture away from the walls to create a seating arrangement if you want to !

It's a sort of L shaped but the return in quite short, I think that'd be a good place for a desk and book shelves.
The wall isn't long enough for the sofa as the door is there, could a sofa be half away from the wall? It would be facing the fireplace.
I wish I knew how to draw a plan and I could show you.

Thanks. I'm trying, but might have to wait for a tech savvy teen to help!

Hi - you are so lucky I don't like watching football - hubby is watching and this is the only warm room - but he's not noticed I've been playing with your layout instead of watching too ! Lol !
Here's a link to two possibles ! Hope you like them !

Thanks OnePlan. It was looking a bit disjointed, but the placing of the rug and sofa makes it work much better.

The best palace to get custom sized rugs is any carpet warehouse type outlet - ask them to whip the egdes of remnant into a rug ! The one I dew was 4mx3m - so room remnant size ! And they are cheap enough to go for light colours and simply replace every couple of years !!!
