Stupid coving and paint question.

The coving is stupid rather than the question.

We have coving between the walls and ceiling in the hall. I've just finished putting lining paper up and am about to paint.

My question is - should the coving be the same colour as the ceiling (white) or the walls (sage green)? Ta.

Or indeed the colour of the woodwork (antique white eggshell)?

Our coving matches the ceiling so it is white, walls are a sort of duck egg blue.

I love coving.

Our very ornate Victorian coving is currently green and White and looks very in keeping. I'm about to redecorate and will do two tone again, just in different shades.
Our very ornate picture rail is white and in the hall the dado is off white to match the woodwork.
Plain coving though I'd make it white.

Any colour except (varieties of) white (including creams) is very prominent to the eye. It may be used to make a bold statement.

Unless you want your coving to be the most striking thing in the room, white (ish) is usual, to match the ceiling.

If you have a very grand home with egg and dart or greek key or something on the coving, you can have the ornamentation gilded if you want.

Any thoughts on how easy it is to take down polystyrene coving and replace with something that doesn't look shite? While we're talking about it and all (mine is white like the ceiling).

I'd try a a broad metal strpiping knife. They may have used a powerful adhesive that will not come off without the plaster, or they may have used something very mild. here may be small nails, with their heads hidden with filler. the fixing will be to the wall. there may be bad cracks that the coving s hiding.

Interesting. The coving hidden inside the old built in wardrobes (vom) was really stuck on. and I'm pretty sure the rancid pigs who lived in our house will have skimmed up to the coving. Maybe I will repaint it again and try and tidy up the rubbish adhesive lines.
