... any advice as to what to do? I've never had packers before.*

  • disclaimer - didn't want to sort/pack until exchange as previous buyer pulled out and so I've been trying to not tempt the fates Grin

Terrys I have no advice for you but offer comfort in that I will be in the same boat. Our exchange date has slipped and slipped and I also didn't want to tempt fate. My house is a pigsty. If there are two of us in this boat in less than 24hrs then I guess we can comfort ourselves in the fact the packers will have seen it all before.

Good luck with the move; let me know how you get on!

They will just pack your rubbish too.

Seriously though that's what they do. They see it, they pack it.

I was busy clearing the kitchen floor where the fridge had been. I looked up to grab the rubbish bag and more cleaning supplies and they were all gone! They'd packed them! Hmm

Just stay out the way an have gallons of tea and biscuits ready. Mine had a tea break every 34 minutes! Shock Hmm

They were great in every other way though! :)

Have just moved with packers. They pack everything. To be honest, mine packed so fast they didn't really look at everything.

Do they unpack too?

They will indeed pack everything. I found a dust cloth in with my china. They were amazing and I suspect they've seen it all!

Prob easier not to tidy it away now when you've only got to put it away somewhere else in a few days. Give the packers free rein!

My advice is put a box of things in your car, so they are easy to find, such as remote controls, money, pet essentia/s, child essentials, medical essentials and some clothes for you all for a day or two. Don't let them pack the kettle, tea, coffee or radio so you can have that all set up at the new place while you unpack.

Give them a pen each and get them to write what's inside the box they pack, and the room the contents will go into (not the one it's come out of!) Some furniture might have to be moved to a different room at the new house, so label the contents for new place to help unpacking.

OK, thanks guys but you all answered after they arrived Grin

I am going with the flow! It's made much harder by the fact we aren't even moving into the new house yet but staying somewhere else an hour away while the renovations are done so need to pack for that too!!

Oh and we haven't exchanged yet Shock Grin

send me good luck vibes please Grin Grin Grin

Oo how exciting. We had packers 4 weeks ago and have had some laughs opening some of the boxes. One had a nothing but a pillow and the draining rack from next to the kitchen sink next to it! Packers really didn't care about the mess and just packed it all. I'm now getting rid of stuff as I unpack.

I didn't answer Terrys, cos I didn't think it could be done, and didn't want to scare you!

But I might have used packers if I'd realised they packed crap too! Grin I moved 2-3 weeks ago (time is a bit of a blur!), and after 20+ years hoarding living in the same house, it literally took 12 full days to sort, pack and move.

We got rid of 8 car-fulls and a skip-full of stuff - including my teenage children's baby toys and papers from my degree 25 years ago - but I had to make sure I didn't throw away my grandma's silver along the way!

I would go thru ruthlessly looking for & removing rubbish but otherwise let them pack it.

Mine packed my handbag containing my purse and phone and I've only just managed to find it 10 hours later. No sign of my toothbrush. Confused

Yikes they really do pack everything they can get their hands on Grin
We packed ourselves (took me weeks of sorting, throwing and reminiscing) and delivered it all to the shipping company warehouse on Monday. Living out of suitcases in a bare house. Luckily we have a bed, throwing out the mattress last minute and leaving the frame as the new owner likes it and wants it. Couches go next Saturday, lots of kitchen stuff went last night. Few more boxes to go and a week till we are out of here.

Loving this thread Smile
We're on holiday, return Sunday and the packers come in Monday at 8:30. I couldn't tidy if I wanted to. Luckily all our togs will already be packed and in the car!
