Decorating lounge help please!

Our lounge is currently painted magnolia - and has been for 11 years! We have been wanting to decorate for ages but haven't a clue on colours. Dh doesn't just want magnolia. W have beige carpets, brown leather sofas, beech furniture and duck egg blue accents. Any suggestions for walls? Paint colours would be good and is it still the thing to do to paint the fireplace wall a different darker colour? I need help please

I'd say go and pick a few of the Dulux paint mixing colour cards (from B&Q or Homebase etc etc) and see what goes best with the browns you have. Or I love the 'Design Seeds' website which has loads of bright or subtle colour palettes you could pick from or adapt to suit your room? I enjoyed painting our living room recently including one really dark brown wall after years of light colours - but apparently the 'feature wall' is on the way out (so I read, who decides these things?!) I think getting a definite wall colour rather than a brown/grey based neutral depends on how dark the brown of your furniture is; the best looking result might just be a stronger neutral rather than blue etc. We have a really dark brown sofa and I bought a couple of duck egg blue cushions for it which in fact look a bit 'cold'. The one orange cushion for it looks much better! But the same cushions on the light brown sofa look fine.
