Pigletjohn - Will you help me with a Shower Problem

Hi

I hope you can help. I am have bought Triton Montagu Dual Control Mixer Shower with Riser Rail. I opened the box and there is a plastic fitting that is supposed to fix the onto the metal fitting. My plumber tells me that this is a very bad design. Also other internet reviews say the same. here.

I cannot take it back part of it is already in the tiled wall. I tried to buy a metal fixing instead but cannot find one. Is my only option to buy a new shower kit. I would like to keep the shower knobs is just this silly plastic connector that is the problem.
