Snagging in a new house

Does anyone have any experience in snagging in a new house? We have been here for three months and there aee quite a few cracks appearing through the paint on the walls. Nothing that looks too serious but aestestically it doesn't look very nice. Will the builders remedy this?

It's likely to be plaster cracks as the building settles. There is no point fixing these types of cracks early doors. I would note them on your snagging list in case they turn into something more serious.

I didn't expect my builders to rectify these cracks but just sorted them out myself after I had been in 18 months. I still got one or two in the years after that.

Just part of buying brand new IMO.

And thanks Star. It means some of the paintwork in the corners is flaking away which is annoying. I hate the hassle of D&Y so I don't fancy having to repaint in a while.

Our builders came back about a year after we moved in a filled and repainted all the settling cracks.

Depends on your builder as to whether they will sort them. They generally won't as they are due to shrinkage / movement, but I have managed to persuade them to sort them in the past.

That sounds better Dizzy. I can see that some have been done already so they must be aware that the cracks are here.

I might have some leverage as there are quite a few unsold houses and people who drive here to look around the estate often ask me what I think about the house and apart from the cracks it is perfect!

Definitely use that leverage then!
