and i cant make a decision!!
we can not afford to move, it is not an option. a bigger house would be atlease £80,000 where we live.
so we could add a conservatory, approx 3m by 3m for about £16,000. BUT
is that a big enough one?
is it too small to be a useful room?
it will leave us with a small patio area, just about big enough for a table and chairs at a squease.
garden is south facing, gets a lot of sun.
i keep hearing conflicting thoughts on conservatorys but a proper extension would be a fair amount more money.
anyone able to help me make a decision?

I am intertested in the same question. We will have no choice but a conservatory as the planning permission forbids anything else.

Im sure if they are done properly so they are cool in summer and warm in winter they are useful?! hopeful

which way does it face?
we have a north facing garden and have one coming off of kitchen diner. we have french doors so if they are open it looks open plan.

our north facing one can get hot in the summer. not so much of an issue with cold in the winter as we have an electric heater, put it on, close the doors and its ok within about half an hour. we have a big sofa, and our mac/desk/chair now i work from home. its useful space for us as i love daylight and the rest of the house is quite dark. it also gives us a separate space from cbeebies and endless re-runs of friends in the rest of house.

just to add, our neighbours face south west (corner plot) and they find theirs unusable in the height of summer, despite expensive blinds, although maybe improvements in technology/glass might make this less of a problem now?

If south or west facing dont you want a roof to insulate and keep heat in in winter and out in summer. Blinds are useless. Check out the many many old threads on this..... You can buy old conservatorys/sun rooms on ebay if budget is a big issue!
