Running the Worktop into the window as a sill?

Whilst renovating my kitchen I am thinking about maybe running the worktop into the window recess, so it becomes the window sill.
Though not sure if this will look good or not.

Either

or maybe add another layer of granite to create a sill like this?

    What do you think?
(I know the photos are slightly misleading as the second is a nicer, lighter photo, but best examples i could find)

Take it from me it looks fantastic. If you use granite it will bounce daylight into the room, plus it gives a better view and makes the room seem larger. Have done it in my kitchen, and for a client and v successful both times!

I think if you're lucky enough that your window is the right height you'd be unreasonable not to. I think it looks really nice Smile

I have done this, like the first picture, and it looks great.
first is better than the second IMHO

My architect suggested this, I wouldn't have thought of it. I have it done in utility room, it looks really well.

I did it in a previous kitchen and it was great. IIRC, it was not quite on the same level but we had corian so they did it seamlessly.

Oooh great idea! I'll file this one for future reference - we'll need to alter our windows for our new kitchen so will have them installed to work. Looks much easier to clean and much more spacious.

Lucky you, looks really nice the 2nd way. The window in the room we're moving the kitchen to is lower than the units will be so I'm trying to decide whether I need to change it, or if I can just do a weekly sweep of all the things that have fallen off the back of the worktop! It will be behind the sink. Will it look odd with an upstand, then 10cm ish of window below worktop height?

We have this is our kitchen and it looks great. Our window is higher than the worksurface so we have granite counter then the upstand and the granite runs off that into the sill. It's a very large window behind the sink, I have all my herbs potted up on it, smells great when washing dishes.

We just viewed a house with this... and I hated it, I'm afraid!

Just looked silly, as if they should have recessed the sink, rather than waste floor space in what was essentially a very tiny kitchen.

It would also be extremely difficult for someone my size to clean (I'm 5'0"- I find it difficult enough to reach a normal depth windowsill behind my sink at present!).
