Buying a house that is unregistered... help please!

We're in the middle of buying a lovely house, surveys done etc.
But we've had a slight hold up due to the house we're buying (a 1930's semi)
isn't registered with the land registry, due to the lovely owner being in her 90's and she has lived there forever.

Does anyone know how long they usually take to sort this out?

We were told a week ago that they (the vendors solicitors)
had been waiting for a letter from the land registry.

When I asked yesterday, they were still waiting :(

It is a piece of string job, but I know a couple of people who have had this and they didn't have to wait too long. About a month I think. I suppose it depends on how busy the LR are, but I don't think it will be much more than that.

We bought one years ago. The solicitor has to check back through all the purchases to verify the title. Once it's done though, it will be registered

I did one last year. It took a couple of months because the previous owner's solicitors claimed I had collected the original documents from them, though they had no receipt or documentation of this, and I had to make declarations and swear oaths.

Subsequently the solicitor found the documents in their firestore, they had mis-filed them

Might have cost me an extra thou, plus the buyer lost interest and dropped out during the delay.
