Talk to me about underlay

ok, having a carpet fitted in a few weeks, in the lounge, was going to use what is down already but now thinking this may be a bad idea as the floor is so hard and even on the carpet it feels like concrete underfoot, sooooo which type of underlay would you recommend?

Ask for Grand Reserve 150lb underlay or equivalent. It's more expensive than others, but when you work out the additional cost for the whole room it's worth it as it will extend the life of the carpet and feel much more comfortable than what's there already.

I go for the silver option. Ime, it's a choice of gold, silver or bronze.

Thanks for your replies. Viva, which brand is that please. I've googled the Grand Reserve as recommended, and can't see an option. Or have I got my wires crossed?

I don't know about grand reserve.

Gold, silver and bronze was in allied carpets I think? But another local carpet shop I also use do gold, silver , bronze as well.

I use Cloud 9 11mm stuff for the bedrooms. Tradeprice or something website do next day delivery and it's not very expensive. The carpet fitter and my friend's DH who has a flooring business , both said it is what they have in their houses.

11mm will be great. Avoid less than 10mm if you can.

We used cloud 9 11mm cumulus and its luuurrvely. Tredaire is the other one that is sold as top-of-the-line. The house is so much warmer with it too. I think we got ours from the same online shop as WynkenBlynkenandNod for one lot and eBay seller for another and it comes to maybe a third what the carpet stores would charge for it (we found that they all had a huge mark up on the extras like underlay that aren't advertised in their prices.)
