If you had exposed brick walls in your kitchen, what kind of splash back/tiles would you go for?

Brick wall will be painted (probably light blue/green or very pale pink). It's a small kitchen is in an old style cottage, I'm trying to find a balance between a modern practical kitchen and conserving the original features. The units will be white and worktop will be wood or black laminate (if I decide I CBA to oil wood). How would you manage tiles/splash back so that it didn't clash with the bricks? TIA

I used mirror for my splashbacks. They make the room look twice the size, reflect the light and are easy to clean. Plus, if you get a local glazier to cut them to size, they are a very reasonable price.

I was going to say quarry tiles to blend with redbrick and look traditional, but if you are painting the walls blue then maybe a contrasting blue. Dark colours will show water splashes and limescale though.

Brick-shaped tiles are available but are almost certainly going to be a differnt size and shape so will look odd.

IMO the larger sizes of tiles look better. You can use floor tiles if you want as the brick wall gives a strong surface.

Clear glass? Soft grey non-obtrusive glass? I don't think tiles will be easy to get right on bare brick unless they don't go right up to your extractor which isn't so practical.

I'd go for something as plain and smooth as possible so as to keep all the attention on the bricks as the "feature". So probably opaque glass splashbacks would be best, if affordable, in white or an off white of some sort.

I agree with Piglet that brick shaped tiles could look a bit odd, like you'd tried to match the bricks but not quite succeeded.

(Personally I wouldn't paint the bricks, or I'd paint them white, but your choice!)

Alas, the bricks are already painted. I am still trying to decide if they add character or are reminiscent of a school sports hall.

I like the idea of big smooth tiles or glass. How/where would I start to look for glass?
