We're looking for a good builder in Bristol - any good recommendations? Not too pricey though!

Also, to those of you with a fair bit of refurb experience: if you needed to do a few bits of structural work (knock through, move an internal wall, create opening in chimney breast) and bits like install kitchen, bathroom, french doors - would you go for one person/company to do it all?

Or would you get the structural work done first and then go for kitchen/bathroom fitters? What are the pros and cons of dealing with one company vs breaking it up a bit? (I wouldn't want to be employing a separate tiler, plumber, electrician etc - maybe just separate bathroom / kitchen fitter specialist).

Also, would you get separate structural engineer for the calculations or leave that to the builder to organise?

It's hard to know how to tackle it for convenience and budget.

In your situation I would definitely use one builder, otherwise you will continually be chasing after the contractors and trying to get them co-ordinated which can be a nightmare unless you know them all well. One builder will do all that which should make it a faster process as long as the builder is good. Try here for a great builder. I've been using builders on and off for 30 years and these are the best I've met, I've used them in my own house and for clients. Have price checked them against others and they stack up well. You might have to wait for them a bit though.

Meant to say they will do bathroom/kitchen fitting as well.

Thank you, that firm looks like they do gorgeous work, but I can't imagine they'd do it on our budget!!
