Any ideas for decorating my ironing room/guest room?

We have a Spanish exchange student coming to stay in November, and I want to put him in the little room next to ds's room, rather than in the main guest suite which is away down the other end of the house.

At the moment, I use it as an ironing/junk room. It's titchy, around 12 feet by 6ft. I have a single bed to go in it which is currently in bits & I think I'll paint it. There's also a Lloyd Loom armchair and a small chest of drawers, both of which I'm happy to paint. Carpet is cream.

There's a sink in the corner with naff little pink flowers on it which I don't suppose I can do anything about.

Pendant light in centre of room.

I was thinking of doing something fairly modern, maybe charcoal & off white fabric draped over the curtain pole, charcoal & white cushions on the bed & chair, but maybe that would be too boring?

So I need ideas on:

Walls, woodwork, furniture paint
Fabrics for window, blind (?),
Light fitting (just a shade, I have a nice glass/white table light for the chest of drawers).
Bedding

Ta in advance

Hi Mumble, I think charcoal and off white are a good choice of colours but I'd probably add a bit of black in there too. I'd paint the chair and chest of drawers black and maybe add either black curtains or an off white roller blind (or both). I'd paint the walls white as keeping it light will make the room seem bigger. I'd also get some nice posters or black and white prints for the walls.

Good luck!

Liz

Thanks Liz! Charcoal and white it is, and I think I may add a bit of Raspberry, eg in the towel by the sink, the soap dish etc.

I would do dark rose.slate grey and cream I think it would make the sink tiles look vintage and give it a real classic look.maybe cream furniture with pewter handles and some mixed cushions. It sounds lovely!

Noddy, where would you put the dark rose? In the accessories or on one or more of the walls?

I think rose walls would look great with cream carpet I am planning that for my bedroom next!White woodwork and maybe match the drawer handles with a cast iron curtain pole and plain white voiles and maybe a black/grey slatted wood blind. Then use all the colours in cushions. If there is room put a vintage style mirror over the sink in a black/grey frame.the colour i love for bedrooms is Farrow and ball cinder or if you like darker craig and rose wedgewood lilac looks great with cream/white

Between Marlow and Henley. I get terribly excited about decorating, I've already decided to go to John Lewis this afternoon to look at fabrics, as I guess that's the first step, once you have the fabric/bedding you can get the paint mixed to go with it.
