How to help prepare DS's who move to a new school next week

My DS's Y5 and Y3 are moving to another primary school next week. This difficult decision has been made following DS1 in Year 5 having bullied since Reception. It only became apparent during the school holidays and we have been trying to resolve it but have decided the situation is beyond this and he needs a fresh start.

DS1 can be a bit 'in your face' with other kids, a strategy he has possibly developed in response to being bullied. I have tried to talk to him about not doing this, and also friendship making skills, but could do with a bit of advice from some wise mumsnetters.

Has anyone been through this with their DC, and if so have you any good advice to give?

TIA

Sit down with him and discuss it. Do a bit of role play with him. Talk to the teacher first so that she is aware and can help in the friendship line.

aside from pisces suggestion of talking to the teacher. Have they had a trial day? if not ask the school if they can come in for a couple of hours tomorrow. Ask the school to arrange a buddy, someone to show them where the toilet is, where to queue for lunch etc.
Try not to worry too much. I moved my boys to a new school in yr 3 and 4 and after much worry (mainly on my behalf) it took them about 3 days to completely feel at home with new friends.

Thanks for your comments. They start tommorrow, and DS2 is worrying about practicalities as you describe Ingles. We'll go in very early and I'll ask for a buddy. The school seems very strong on SEAL so hoping it is all assumed that they'll be well cared for.
