Title says it all really.

How are they run and funded, generally?

Does anyone know?

Ours has a breakfast club that starts at 8am, it costs £11 per week. No after school club though.

The school I worked in previously, had a breakfast club. It was free and opened at 7:45am and served breakfast at 8:20. It is run quite well and gave all children the chance to have breakfast. It was funded by the welsh assembly government.

Before school club (no food!) from 7.30am cost £1.50/day no pre-booking required. After school club until 6.30pm £2.50/day. Again no food so I send ds to school with a packed tea and he has hot school lunch. We use them as needed and pay at the end of term. Means we don't pay for sessions not used.

ds is starting school this year and ours has an afterschool club 3pm - 6pm for £7 a session and breakfast 7:15am-9am for £3.50 a session.

Spoke to them last week and we will book the week before and only pay for what we use.

I think its a private organisation, but run on school grounds with some grants from local authority (ie. for PC's etc).

Ours also accept childcare vouchers which is great.

Yes, DD's school has both. After school was included in school fees initially but last year they decided to not put up fees but to introduce a charge for after school club.

Breakfast club: run by specially employed support staff and the school cook, £2 a session. Open from 7:45am. Located in the dining hall. Breakfast provided.

After school club: run by a teacher (rota) in school. Free up until 4pm. Finish time is 5:30pm. £4 a session.

Our school has nada either.

Which means that I can't get a job!

Its a bit galling to think that if my dcs happened to go to a different school I would be able to work.

Ours doesn't have either atm, but letters have been sent out recently, asking who would use it etc. I was under the impression that all schools had to offer wrap around care by end of 2010...is that not right?

I had to phone them twice to check! Holiday club is also affordable at £30 for 9am to 4.30pm. Of course school fees on top but as my childminder decided to increase her fees by 65% in anticipation of ds starting school I am actually paying the same now for fees plus wraparound care that I would have paid for the childminder alone!

Before school club is in the dining room so it is a bit mean that they don't provide breakfast imo. I'd happily pay a bit more for that option. Our local catchment school charges £3 including breakfast (toast/yoghurt) but later start (8am) and after school club is until 6.15pm £11 per day including tea. They bus them to another school in the local town and then bus them back again. Means they must spend 45 mins (probably longer) after school on the bus.

The best thing about my ds's after school club is he can go to it irrespective if he has an after school activity (the state school would be either/or). Makes me feel less guilty about being a working mum!

Breakfast club run by school. After school club run by parents.

Report
Clary · 19/02/2009 00:20

lovetingles they don't have to offer wraparound care.

What they have to do is let you know where you can access it (eg another school/nursery etc).

It just wouldn't be practical for every school to offer it.

Ours has b/fast club and a/school club, price ?? for b/fast, afterschool is about £4 till 4.30pm, £6 till 6pm or something like that.

Run by outside private agency (but they're all lovely people!)

There is also an out of school club locally that takes from all the primaries in the area. It's a bit more £££ tho.

at these prices! Ours A-S club is £13 a day (3.30-6). Not at the school though-it is a club for about 6 different schools in a church hall run by a private company. They do feed them though, and dd probably gets through £11 worth of hama beads every afternoon anyway!

Nothing at dd's state primary. I asked if any plans for anything at pre-start meeting....was told "not much call for that sort of thing from most of our parents". We also had an entire term of midday finishes when dd started. It is not the most working parent friendly of schools...

Our school had breakfast club run by the school from 8am until school started, for £2 a session, and the was part of the catchment of a local (privately run) after school club. That provided a snack and a hall for running around. It ran until 5.30 I think so not long enough for us (and the hall was tricky to get to for me) but was relatively cheap (cheaper than the £5 an hour each childminder fee anyway).

Ours has just started offering breakfast and after school club, in conjunction with the local day nursery. It's run on the school site, in a spare classroom but by the people from the nursery.

It's £4 for breakfast club (approx an hour session) and £8.50 for after school (3.30pm - 6:30). Don't know if any food is included in that, I'd hope so, it seems pretty £££££ to me.

Our school has both breakfast & after school clubs they have just been take over by the YMCA/surestart
We pay £1.50 for before school (8am) and £6.50 for after school (3.15-5.45) both include food
Our local leisure centre run a holiday club and if you aren't a member costs £17 pd which I think is excellent value

Neither here. They did a survey last year, but only asked about after-school club - and it would have been £15/day er, no thanks!

Would think a breakfast club a much better idea around here, lots of commuting parents.

Yes, both. And available on demand, even drop in ad hoc basis, eg for childcare emergencies.

It is a reason why I chose the school - because it allows me to work to pay for their school fees. Very convenient.

Breakfast club from 8am-9am.
After school club from 3pm-6pm.

They are overseen by the school but managed as a separate "company" with individual manager/staff etc.

I would have to check costs but think breakfast was about £2 and after school about £7.

normally you have to book in advance but they will take you ad-hoc if spaces.

Although ds finishes school at 3.20 you have until 4pm to collect, which is handy. At 4pm they are put on the bus (5 mins journey) to the other school site where the nursery is located and where after school care is based. Before school care is at the school and holiday club is usually where the nursery is but sometimes at the school (one week of the summer hols).

I've been very impressed at how geared up the school is for working parents but then as we are paying fees I think they have to be. They have even arranged for me to have parents evening at 8am to fit in with my commuting!

We have an Early Club that is free, although there is a small charge if they actually have breakfast.

After school, Years 3-6 can do clubs run by their teachers for free up until 6pm. Years R-2 have to pay as someone comes in to play with them. They get a snack and drink included in this.

Breakfast club is at a nearby school, cost £2.50. After school club is in adjoining church hall run by a private company and costs £8.00 (I think) but no food provided. Parents would prefer breakfast club to be run in the church hall, but the company does not think that it would be profitable, so the children have to go to another school for this.
