Hi All,

We are moving to Birmingham in the next couple months. The areas we have shortlisted to live are -

  1. Solihull
  2. Sutton Coldfield
  3. Egbaston

We are looking for schools for our 4 yr old son. I'd really appreciate if you could suggest some of the best schools in these areas. We are open to both Public and Private schools.

Hello! An early welcome to Birmingham from me. We moved here from London in March and are in Harborne (just down the road from Edgbaston). DD (2.5 yr old) starts at the Edgbaston High School for Girls nursery class next Weds but we also liked Blue Coat school and Hallfield (all private). Our garden backs on to st Mary's primary which is supposed to be excellent but you need to be Roman Catholic.

If your going state in Solihull look closely at the catchments areas as some are tiny and heavily oversubscribed. THe extra housing being built in some areas are also further shrinking them.

Sutton Coldfield also has a problem with oversubscribed state schools, so check catchment area / distance from school very carefully.

I've heard good reports from friends about both Chad Vale and Harborne Primary (state schools serving Edgbaston/Harborne).
