picking up from nursery ( school nursery) - 45 min earlier?

Hi. my DD goes to afternoon nursery and I have just booked some activities after school. can I request the school to let me pick her up 3 times a week 45 min earlier as I believe nursery (schoool nursery) not statutory?

It seems a lot if it's just an afternoon session. How long will they actually be there?

As you pay the fees you can pick her up when ever you like . It definitely isn't statutory that she there. The might grumble a bit as it may disrupt the routine lots of nurseries say his but after working in them for 6 years I have never found dead this

Yes you can. They can't forcibly keep your child. However, if it's an oversubscribed nursery, you might find its an unpopular choice. Around here where free school nursery places are like gold dust, parents who regularly don't use the full session are asked to withdraw their child to give the space to somone else who will use the full session. You don't have to remove them but the people I know who have done it have all felt miserable about it!!

You can - but I'd question why you'd want her to miss so much (especially since it's likely that the nursery structures the day so that she'll always be missing e.g. story and singing. There may also be an impact on funding (i.e the nursery will lose money as you are attending for fewer hours), so if the nursery is oversubscribed, the nursery might well prefer to give your place to a child who uses all the hours!! not to mention it will be disruptive (to your child and to the nursery to constantly pull her out before the session has ended.

I'd be questioning the benefit of the extra activities tbh.

In theory yes. In practice, the couple of times I've borrowed DD from nursery for things, however much she liked the other activities, she was too aware of what she was missing and wasn't happy. (DS on the other hand would have happily missed nursery just for sitting at home doing nothing...)

45 minutes is quite a lot, in nursery time. A lot can take place in that time, surprisingly! If your child only goes for the afternoon session anyway, it hardly seems worth bothering to go at all ! Are these activities really something your child needs to do?

Our afternoon sessions are 3 hours long. If you wanted to pick your child up early on 3 out of the 5 sessions, then we would suggest that you take a morning session instead. We don't offer the flexibility for people to pick up early on a regular basis. It's quite disruptive for the other children if parents start turning up early as they get unsettled and upset, thinking they've been forgotten.
