Anyone here a Lead Practitioner/in charge of Teaching and Learning?

Evening all,
My school are looking at changing the management structure and a role may be created with the specific remit of supporting teachers and raising overall standards and attainment.
Just wondering anyone has ever had experience in such a role? Any comments gratefully received.
