Wondering what's normal. Newsletters/ welcome to the new school year letter/ info on the new curriculum?

All of those things. Also dates for your diary showing things like Nativity play, sports day, open day dates.. I would say my DC's school is good at communication though. If anything it's a bit overwhelming.

A few texts reminding us reception parents of pick up times and an email about precautions on the play equipment after an accident. Email with future dates for the year eg sports day, parents evenings. Haven't had anything written in DD's book except ticks to note they've read my comments.

Term dates up until Xmas 2014 were sent out before summer break.

We've had info about a new after school club; a meeting with parents about the Y1 curriculum; a McMillian coffee morning that the school is holding.

But I have to say it has been a bit scant so far.

Quite a bit.

All the dates for the next year (inc sports day and shows).
Info on the new curriculum and details of what each class are studying this half term. So pushy mums like me can get relevant books from the library Blush.
Open evening last week so we could meet the teachers, visit their new classrooms and have a quick chat.

Welcome to school including drop off/pickup instructions
Grade 2 slideshow as I couldn't make the info session when they had it; lists teachers names for the Grade, expectations, schedule of homework for the week etc....
About 4 requests for money
Notice of school sports day along with request for money for the class t-shirt
The school has this excellent planner, 2 pages for a week where the DC write in on the left what homework they have and any notes to do with other school things they have to remember (bringing craft supplies etc). Teacher and parent can write notes to each other on the right. It is truly brilliant and very organised.

Oh and teacher sent us a schedule of the day so we can see what the DC are doing and when, when their 'specials' are (PE, Art, Music) and the names of those teachers.

We've also had an email from the teacher.

Very impressed so far.

New year welcome letter; first newsletter last Fri which included a bit saying welcome to new reception class, dates up until half term, changes to sen and a bit about new curriculum; meet the teacher poster; school dinners slip as to whether we'd be taking up free lunches or not....overall I'd say there's been something every other day so far.

None of those things.

We had a year group newsletter for DD's year group, but nothing at all from the school as a whole or DS's year group.

Considering the school had a new head last year, they have changed the way they do lots of things and there is a new primary curriculum - I think this is very poor. DH and I are constantly asking the DC things to find that they don't do them that way any more.

Sounds familiar redsky!

We have had nothing beyond a few letters about after school activities and a trip.

Diary dates eg parents' evening, Xmas play (calendar also on school website).
Timetable for lessons & homework.
Lunch/after school activities timetable.
Letter for permission to weigh child (whole year for NHS research).
Letter for permission for child to buy snack at morning break.
Email on change to paying for lunches system.

Nothing on curriculum - clearly not requiring parental input Grin.

some emails about cock ups with free school meals. A letter with the date that we will finally get to meet the teacher who is already teaching DD, an emai reminder that kids aren't allowed summer uniforms (no matter how hot this indian summer is), an email clarifying the start of term because they didn't publish it till late summer term before we left so there was still some confusion… that's it, nothing about the new curriculum.

Not as much as usual, as the HT's mum has just died, so she of course hasn't been as on top of things as she usually is. Usually, at a whole school level, we get a list of dates for the rest of the term in the first week or so, plus a weekly newsletter.

Dd's class teacher sent a note introducing herself, with a curriculum map showing what they'll be covering this term. It didn't specifically talk about the new curriculum, but it was a good and detailed explanation of what they'll be doing in each subject, and how they'll be making links where appropriate.

And of course the usual influx of consent forms and requests for money...

We have a weekly newsletter emailed which is quite detailed and includes 'dates for your diary' forthcoming events, after school clubs, school lunches. Also notification that the school will be offering more curriculum evenings this year.
