My DS is in Yr2 and cries everyday at school. The causes are limitless and include getting an answer wrong, losing a game and running out of time to complete work. DS has no additional needs but when something goes wrong he bursts into tears. Last year DS attended school sessions aimed at helping him deal with his emotions. I'd assumed this had improved the situation but at a recent consultation I was told that he cries everyday. As the range of triggers is so big the teacher admitted that they don't know how to handle the situation. Yesterday the TA told him to stop being a "cry baby"...
DC starts Junior School in September and I'm painfully aware that he will be open to teasing/bullying if I can't help him to understand and channel his feelings. I need (hopefully in conjunction with the school) to come up with a plan of how to foster resilience. Does anyone have any experience of this and ideas of how to help?
I'm planning to arrange a meeting with the teacher regarding this but don't want to go in without any idea of what to do.
