DS yr1 reading tips

My DS was doing really well in reception with his reading and blending but since going into Yr 1 he seems to be struggling and yesterday he came home with a book that didnt even have words in it, like in the start of reception.
Id already spoken to the teacher that morning about not marking his homework(letter writing) for over a fortnight(it was marked yesterday though, lol) and about how the books arent taking very long to read and he needs more stimulation. I read with him at home and he is the youngest in his class but he suddenly seems to stammer and stumble of words he knows, and even stumbling and mixing up letters, like d and b, which he never used to do.
are there any tips or useful sites youd recommend? im happy to work with him as much as i can because i feel the teacher isnt stimulating him enough. She is quite 'shouty' so think he maybe scared of her.
Ive started a word box at home also so ive written all the basic words down on card and words he stumbles over into the box and we go over them like flash cards.

thank you :)

Reading eggs (readingeggs.co.uk) is good and starts at a suitable level following an assessment of your child. My Y1 DS loves it. The CBBC alphablocks games are good too.

ORT Owls have ebooks that are good for bedtime.
