Should DD go to school

DD 5 1/2 (yr 1) was up in the night last night, with a slight temp (37.5) and crying because of ear ache. Went back to sleep after Ibroprofen.

I took her to the nurse this morning who said it's a minor ear infection and should clear up on it's own in a few days. I asked if I should keep her off school and she said it's up to me, it's not infectious.

She stayed home today, as had nurse appointment and was pretty tired. This is her first day off sick since starting infant school.

She has had another does of Ibroprofen, which has brought her temp down, and of course she is fine.

So, should I send her in tomorrow, if she is about the same?

Can I send in a sachet of Ibroprofen for them to give her if she feels poorly?

I suspect that if she needs medicine, she ought to be at home, but, as I said, this is new to me.

I don't work outside the home.

Its a tricky one, my knee jerk reaction would be to send her in and she'll have 2 days after tomorrow to get rested up ready for next week.

If you do send her in the sachet sounds like a good idea too.

Our primary says if a child needs calpol etc to keep there temperature down they should not be at school. If she is as righrt as rain tomorrow send her. If not keep her off.

If she's feeling tired and not herself, then I wouldn't send her. If she's lively and wants to go to school then yes, and let the teacher know what the nurse said. I imagine if she develops a temperature during the day they'll call you to pick her up.

I think most schools won't administer medicines unless in an emergency (epipens or inhalers). So I'd keep her at home - ear infections make you feel so miserable.

Agree that ear ache would make me miserable but I'd still have to go to work.

Give her another day off - she needs to catch up on her sleep and she won't miss out on anything vital at this age. Better to do that than have to fetch her from school. Ear infections are pretty nasty and it does take a lot out of them. At least at home she will be able to take things easy - at school they don't get a chance to stop!

Thank you everyone. You have reassured me.

If she has a temp and needs medicine, I will keep her at home. I'm going to make her do lots of reading and writing practice so she doesn't get a taste for it. Grin

I agree - if she has a temp overnight and needs meds to bring it down, she should not go in.

Make her day off sick boring though - time in bed, a bit of school work if she's up to it, little telly. Just so she learns being off sick is not fun.
