Research- anyone with a 6-7 yr old diagnosed dyslexic?

Most places won't diagnose dyslexia until 7 (normal techniques for improving reading should be tried to help those behind before that age). Personally DS was diagnosed at 7, we could well have waited to get a diagnosis.

I think whilst most teachers/parents expect that a child may be dyslexia they dont officially diagnose it until a child is 7+ (Year 2).

Until the age of 7+ many of the symptoms are present in non dyslexic children but normally disappear.

If you google the dyslexia association for your area they do a preliminary test for £50 and can refer you to professionals for the full test if needed..

My daughter was diagnosed at 6. We suspected something was wrong but the tests are calibrated for 6 and above. We also had her seen by a behavioural optometrist.

Ds was diagnosed by an Ed Psych at the then Dyslexia Institute when he was 7. He's 14 now and still dyslexic (obviously) but doing pretty well. I knew there was something wrong (he's our 3rd child and I'm a teacher). I did their PG course and have maintained an interest, though wish I knew far more about study skills at secondary level/GCSE.
