Proposed changes in primary schools in Renfrewshire, will this end up affecting all of Scotland?

Primary changes planned, having been at our parent council meeting last night, feeling was that if Renfrewshire do it other authorities will follow due to cost savings. Thought other parents might like a heads up.

I'm from Renfrewshire originally, and was horrified at first when I read that.

But then I realised that this is what happens in our schools here (England), and has done for a long time.

Teachers PPa is usually covered by a HLTA, or by outside dance/sports/activity companies.

I think that yes, other councils will follow.

I think it is meant to save the council £1.2 million.

Our Education Department is merging with a neighbouring Council's Education Department and its only a matter of time before the bigger Council on the other side take over Education for all three - thus recreating the old Regional Council which they done away with many years ago

But yes I think its only a matter of time before the Renfrewshire system is taking up by other Councils

Glasgow has just announced it expects to save £500,000 by replacing a few headteachers by 'heads of service' in its nurseries. It will be allowing classes up to 33 to save almost £1.5m.

This is just the start of it. I agree, the idea will be taken up - if its allowed.

I am in Renfrewshire too. It was pushed through so quickly a lot of the parents had not even heard of the proposals. I signed the online petition but really feel so helpless. If they get away with it then I do think other councils will quickly follow suit.

I am also in Renfrewshire, and am deeply angry with the council for this. I am aware that they have a requirement to save money, but they are cutting with such a lack of forethought and due consideration it is unbelievable. Wish to god we could afford to move away from here, which is a pain, since I have basically been here since I was born!

From talk at the school gates today looks like the council are going ahead with the pilot in 4 schools and rolling out the rest in August.

Another shocking enditement of the failings and mismanagement of the Chief Executive and various Heads of departments within Renfrewshire District Council, and I put the Head of Education, Mr Naylor, at the top of this list! Yet again we find he has disregard for our young peoples education and for their parents/carers Input & concerns, taking stealth action in order not to have any communication with us, the parents who find themselves, yet again, being kicked squarely in the teeth by an executive who's only concern is his budget!

In addition, the obvious lack of support from our elected councillors & MSP's/MP's is just another confirmation that we, the electorate, are nothing more than a convenience when required, and an irritant at most other times!
