Apparently her class have been working on "sorting shapes and numbers according to different criteria's".

Yes really and with the apostrophe too.

Now I am all for saying of a newsletter eg "well it was probably put together by the secretary" etc, but this beats that.

Clearly a worksheet put together by the maths teacher, who I don't rate particularly (she allowed DS1 to just piffle his way thru yr 5) but at least I imagined she could spell.

Correct it, send it back. Job done.

I have corrected it but I felt a bit bad about it.

I'm just aghast that a primary teacher thinks you need apostrophes in plurals. Never mind that she seems unaware that criteria is already a plural.

Just having a moan I suppose.

That's what MN is for! Perhaps the teacher doesn't always do this and was having a bad day? I absolutely agree with you that teachers should be able to spell and use the correct form for plurals but they are human and do make mistakes.

It could have been due to tiredness...they have a lot to do. I know my own work is not always perfect.

yep criteria, already a plural. Singular form criterion.
But everyone makes mistakes! Criteria/criterion is not the most commmon plural in the world so understandable to get it wrong. Apostrophe a bit rubbish though. But everyone makes the odd error. I did a major adding up error on a worksheet I created today. Extension task - spot the deliberate mistake I made.... Was due to time pressure, only had half an hour to do the job, didn't check thoroughly enough.
Any time I make a worksheet involving left and right I make at least one mistake as I am so uncoordinated!
