Can someone explain SATs to me?

I had a look online and I still don't geddit.

If at the end of infants a child gets a level 3 is that good? I mean really good, or would you expext that or more? Someone today said it was above average, but average at say, GCSE isn't very good.

And then what should they be getting at the end of primary as a good score?

Is there an idiots guide?

Level 2 is the "norm" at KS1 (Infants), a 2a being higher than a 2c, 3 is very good. Think a 4/5 is typical for KS2 (age 11)

Don't get your GCSE reference - average at GCSE is a C, so above average would be a B or A/A*, how is that not good?

As LIZS says, an able child would usually achieve level 3 in Y2, and level 5 in Y6.

The average grade for a GCSE is C/D depending on subject. A D wouldn't be very good (in my eyes) a C OK if they weren't doing an A-level in that subject. A B, good and A/A* very good.
