Do the children all go in at once at your DC's school

DDs school lets children come into the class room between 8.20am and 8.45am. It works really well as there isn't a big crowd coming in at once. There are activities laid out ready and children just get on with things.

I like this way of doing things but just wondered how other schools do it

Activities laid out in the class is how they do it at DD's school if it's bad weather.
Otherwise, it's play outside until the bell goes, line up, then file in class at a time when teacher comes out.

One of the teachers obviously resents losing those minutes to get sorted in the morning on wet weather days though, and her class wait in the corridor - which is a nightmare.

Drop off at our school starts at 8.30 mainly for working parents and main drop off from 8.40, children need to be ready to start the day at 8.50. We take the children to their classes, make sure they are settled and off we go. Teaching starts st 8.50am but teachers take responsibility from 8.30, dd is in Y1 and the class room has the mornings activities laid out ready, was the same in reception, as children move up the classes they will have things to do to keep them busy until the school day starts.
I like the way they do thing in our school, can't quite imagine not seeing her into her class, don't know how I would ever know what she was up to or get a chance for a quick chat to her teacher or arrange an after school meeting if we dropped off outside for them to line up.

We do the soft start, where you can drop and stay, or just drop from 8.30 and they have to be there by 8.50. Its lovely and so relaxed

At DD's primary school children can go into the school building from 8:15am to drop off their bags int he classroom, but hen straight back to playground. parents can leave from 8:15am. They have a bell and line up at 8:30am for school to start, Teacher takes them in.

I work in an infant school. chool i open from 8:40am and school starts at 8:50am. So, parents have 10 minutes to bring their children into school, put bags and coats away and bring them to the class. Parents can then leave straight away or can come into class for the 10 minutes to read with their child or do a small activity with them.

At DS and DD's school the bell goes at 8:55 and they go in. If it is wet I presume they go in earlier but since we moved in June don't think it has been wet first thing in the morning Grin

There is before school care from 8:00 as well - the children are taken to their classrooms by the before school staff (infants) - I think juniors make their own way across

DS's is similar to yours -- can go in any time from 8.30 to 9am and have stuff to get on with when they arrive.

Doors open 8.50am - children must be in there by 9am. No parents in the classroom. You say goodbye at the door which opens onto the playground. Some of these other schools are really early! DD's school has a separate breakfast club which starts at 8am I think.

Supervision is from 8 - reception all go into one classroom and are fetched from there at 8.30, all others play outside and line up at 8.30. If wet, they are in the hall instead
