Ok so dd is 9 and although she's had stuff explained to her over the years she's starting to ask about things in a bit more detail. is there any books you could recommend.

do they cover feelings and relationships too or just the biological changes?

We bought ready set grow for our now 18 year old when she was about 7 or 8 and it found it's way into our younger daughter's room and she now uses it as a reference.

We bought a book from Waterstones called The Smart Girls Guide to growing up for DD9 bs he has devoured it and feels quite empowered by her knowledge I think.

It covers periods, tarpons/towels, physical changes, emotional changes, friendship, moodiness, tearfulness and touches on the biology of sex with out too much detail.

We both felt it was just enough info and opened up good discussion. I would recommend.

What's happening to me is a good book. Amazon sell it.

Damn it I really like the sound of that one too.

can I ask, do they mention relationships between men and women at all or is it all about their body. I'm only asking because obviously this is 2015 and dd is well aware that people can marry who they want and I wanted a book (if it mentions anything about relationships/ feelings at all) that makes it clear it's normal to have feelings for other girls. if that makes any sense.

I love the American Girl books, and I think the care and keeping of you might be from that stable..... really good, and dd (11) LOVES it... it's her 'puberty book'

Have now bought her The Feelings Book, and she is after another one that deals with friendships.....

I've gone for the smart girl guide and the care and keeping of you.

I will of course read first and if I think they are too much I will order the first one suggested.

thanks everyone Smile

Ooh I'm looking for a similar book for my 10 year old DD. I'd like one that goes through the physical effects of puberty but also the mental and emotional problems as well. do the books mentioned cover that?

the one slightly suggested, s/he said it explained moodiness and tearful Ness which is why I ordered it because dd is pretty moody and tearful these days.

if you click on sevens link you will see other books in the series about feelings and friendships. I'm hopeful dd might feel a bit better after reading it.

Thanks slightly and Giles (LOVE Giles, with or without his chainsaw)!! I've just ordered the Smart Girl's Guide collection from Book People for £4.99 for 3 books! It includes a book about friendship which DD definitely needs at the moment - drama drama drama!!!
