Oops sorry, it was a sim only deal as we had old phones to use. We got it about 18m ago so no idea if it is still current.

Sorry if that's misled you.

I would advise being v aware of Internet use on a mobile, much harder to supervise and much easier to access unsuitable material.

PAYG/contract depends on a) can you trust them to stick to the lint? And b) how likely it is to get nicked/lost ?

Go for unlimited texts if you possibly can.

Look closely at T&C, several news stories recently about providers changing T&C, prices, etc without warning & without user having any redress. Vodaphone a special culprit but not the only ones IIRC.

I buy cheap used very small clamshells or sliders on Ebay & then get them on Giffgaff.

I don't relate to spending a lot on phones for "features", or committing to a contract. You can set up direct DDs for PAYG phones and Goody Bag packages, too.

Hi haunted, that sounds like the kind of deal I'm after! What phone did you get with that package and did you get it recently? smile

Tesco mobile have some very good prices.

My dtds both have a £6 month contract which gives them 100mins and unlimited texts. I think tbh that works out cheaper than it would PAYG and I have the reassurance that they will never be out of credit.

Tesco mobile uses the o2 network so v good coverage.

Me and Dp have just got a phone through talk mobile its the online part of carphone warehaouse. For £7.50 a month we got a new samsung galaxy ace phone 250mins talktime 5000 text and 500mb of data which i think is a good deal and ideal for youngsters.

Hi, I too would be interested in hearing your thoughts on the best mobile options. DD currently has one of my VERY old Nokias (it's prehistoric wink) and has done fine with it, she has asked for a new phone for Christmas and I am happy to get her one, especially as she is off to secondary school in sept and would use it more.
She has mentioned a blackberry and a Samsung galaxy? She would like a phone with a qwerty keyboard. I am most unsure if it would be best to get a pay as you go phone or a contract.
I don't know if these phones are any good anyway as I only have eyes for my iPhone grin!!
Any thoughts would be appreciated smile

Dd is in year 6 and we have said she can have a phone when she goes into secondary school. Does anyone have any tips or info about the best way to set this up to minimise (a) cost (b) risk of phone being nicked on the bus. We would no way buy an expensive phone but what sort of cost is the cheapest? All info welcome. Thanks.
