Basically, where we live there is a lovely school and pre-school. It is literally just behind our house. We would really like our dd to go to this school and pre-school but have no idea how to go about it. I thought we had plenty of time to worry about school (dd is only 14mo) but several people have suggested i put her name down now. I always thought people were joking when they said about putting their dc name down at birth for schools, am i just being naive? Somebody help please??!!!!!

Is the preschool actually attached to the school , if so you'd normally apply when dd is rising 3 (assuming they take them for the year before Reception). soem do so individaluuy some centrally through the LEA. You can always call and ask what their procedure is. If it is privately run then you may need to be looking now.

where we live you apply for school the year beore they are due to go, it doesn't matter if your name is down or not
you could try your local council website for their policy on school admissions?
the preschool though you will need to put your dd on the list

compeltely depends on the school. Our school makes you wait until their 2nd birthday to apply....however a lot of parents will turn up on their 2nd birthday with application forms!!

oh meant that is for the school nursery, for a place in the school you apply direct to the council a year before they are due to start.

Thanks, so i can just ring them without seeming like a complete weirdo and pushy parent? (plenty of time for that)
