Fed up with horrible taste.

I have a horrible taste in my mouth permanently and nothing I eat makes it any better. I am pretty nauseus most of the time and this taste is making me feel worse. Even water tastes horrid.

Is anyone else experiencing this and have you found anything that helps at all? I am 10+4 at the moment and getting fed up with this as I need to eat regulalrly to fend off the nausea and this taste is making it almost impossible. I can't even enjoy foods I really fancy. I am sorry for being a moany cow, but it's getting me down a bit.

It does go, eventually - around 12 weeks for me. It is awful while it lasts though and nothing seems to shift it for long, IME.

I still have it at 25 weeks but it didn't last this long with other pregnancies

It's a bloody pain isn't it? I didn't really have this with my first pregnancy, so it is a first.

I suppose it is good in one way, as I have had 2 weeks of spotting and getting a new symptom gives me hope that all is still ok as the scan showed at 8 weeks.

I've noticed this more with this pregnancy than my first- I agree, it's horrible. Some people describe it as metallic but I'd say it's like an aftertaste after eating anything. I haven't really found anything that helps, except flavoured drinks mask it better than plain water. Maybe try some apple juice, weak squash?

I had it and found oranges and satsumas helped- but only for a little while. It does go around 12 week mark though, so not long for you.

Sara, that's exactly what I have! It's not a metallic taste, just a really yucky after taste. I have tried drinking squash and that makes it even worse and it seems to be making me really thirsty too.

Thanks for the reassurance sassy, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi all,

I had exactly the same thing from about weeks 6 - 10, a really disgusting taste after food that put me off eating anything at all, nothing would shift it.

It could be a concidence but at 10 weeks I started taking the Pregnacare multivitamin tablets (I'd just been taking straight folic acid before) and within 2 days it had gone.

Hope you find something that helps!

Liz

That's interesting Northern, I am just taking Folic Acid, but have some Pregnancare I haven't taken yet. I could try that and see if it helps.

Only trouble is, the Pregnacare has iron in it and I'm suffering from diahorrea (sp) so far, as in my last pregnancy, and the iron can make it worse. I guess I will have to weigh up the pros and cons.

I had this and it was pretty bad up until about 14 weeks, it made me want to eat all the time to get rid of it but it would just come back minutes after I'd finished eating, it drove me mad. The only thing that I found helped a little was mint chewing gum, it was far from a miracle cure but did take the edge off for me. I'm now 16 weeks and still have a faint taste but nowhere near as bad. Hope yours goes soon!!
