Shock and Awe- how did you break the news?

Just being nosey.

This time last year I'd just told DH we were having a baby. We'd been trying for three months and I'd had a recent miscarriage. I'd got my next lot of Clomid ready to take and was getting ready to go to a friend's Hen Party when I thought I'd do a test, which was positive. I carried on getting ready whilst DH put DD1 to bed, smiling to myself, then dug out the test I did with DD1 (first of 12 ). When I was ready to go out, I came downstairs, I showed DH the old test and said "Look what I've found" and we both smiled at the two lines that changed our lives. Then I put the new one next to it, said "And now we have a matching one", kissed him and went out to the hen. It wasn't until I got home that I realised I'd been too cryptic and had to explain it to him!!!

How did you break the new to your loved ones?

Texted him. He was abroad at the time.

Sorry, that sounds awful doesn't it.

DH was working away in Edinburgh for 3 years, and I saw him only at the weekend (this only bothered me for TTC - otherwise a fab arrangement!). So when i got a faint pink line on an internet cheapie I could afford the time to go and get a clearblue digital (words to confirm it in case i was dreaming!) I did the test at lunch in the work loo and then drove to a car park to give him the news on the phone. Despite starting the conversation with 'keep this a secret' he said 'wow' so much that he attracted attention in his office and he announced my pregnancy immediately! before i'd told my mum, too!

DP got really practical. When I showed him the stick he said 'Right, we need to sort out building the extension now'.

My mum denies this now, but her first reaction was 'Are you going to get married then, otherwise we'll be illegitimate grandparents'

I can't believe you kept your stick - it's a bit of plastic soaked in urine!!!

I found out I was pregnant at 23 weeks (no symptoms or anything up to then! 29 weeks now though! and huge bump including wriggly little boy!) and went to the doctor with suspected appendicitis, she had a feel and told me she could feel a baby!

Went home. Walked in to living room where DP was sat watching telly. Announced "I'm Pregnant". Burst in to tears. lol. Just the initial shock of finding out I was nearly 5 and a half months gone! lol.

Wow Chelle - amazing!

I found out on 26th June last year. Didn't tell DH for 4 days as he was off on a stag weekend that day and, as it wasn't exactly planned, didn't want to ruin it for him. So I waited till he got back, give him a drink (!) and then told him.

He was, errr, shocked to say the least - but proudest dad of 4.5 month old girl now.

DH was in Iraq. I rang the welfare line but the nosy old cow woman on the other end refused to get a phone call through until I told her what it was FOR. I didn't want to tell her before DH, so she refused. So I had to send a bluey asking him to ring me asap. he didn't find out for another 10 days.

I was 3 days late but I had this back pain, like period's pain. I went to boots at lunch time and bought a Pregnancy test and some pads (it had to be one of those two). I remember the lady at the counter smiling. DH picked me up from university and I showed him my shopping. Once we arrived home we went straight away to the toilet and I did the test. As soon as I did it a fat + sign appeared and I started to cry. He looked at me very confused and said "I thought this was what you wanted". I was in shock for a few hours and he was the one who rang everyone, including my mum, to break the news.

I'd been feeling a bit odd for a few days, but had tried to not think about it as I was worried about stress messing up my cycle... then after a couple more days I realised my period was a month and three days late and decided that probably qualified as reason to get a test. Got a cheap one from Wilkinsons, showed partner the fuzzy line which was looked at and declared 'not enough like the one in the instruction paper'. (The instructions showed a nice dark line, mine was rather blurrier than that.) Went to the GP on way to the library, had a test there as well, was told congratulations and given a book about being pregnant.

When I got home there was a surreal conversation... partner: 'did you get the book you wanted?' me: 'I got a book!' ~brandishing pregnancy book and grinning~ partner, blinking: 'oh. so when's your test?' (I'd mentioned that I was going to ask for a test at GP) me: 'I had it!' p: 'what was the result?'

Then we told a close friend, who was ecstatic, ...and my mum, who said she doubted I'd be able to look after it. Thanks mum.

I was having fertiity treatment and so having managed to hold out on testing until the day advised by the clinic I woke at 3am and managed to wait until 6am before getting up to test. Waiting for the alloted 3 minutes before checking the stick my heart felt like it was going to burst out of my chest. When I looked and saw a strong positive pink line I could hardly breathe. I crept back into the bedroom and sqeaked to DP who was in bed 'I'm pregnant!!!' I then climbed back into bed and had a little cry in DP's arms. DP said I was shaking from head to toe and had the biggest smile cracking my face I will never forget the moment as long as I live.

Reading all these stories now at nearly 26 weeks pregnant I am getting all emotional and teary

"DH I'm pregnant".

He cried and stuttered for a while (happiness) and then we ordered a takeaway.

I had had 2 rounds of IVF, both resulting in pregnancy followed by missed miscarriages. We were one day away from beginning the next round, to have some of our frozen embryos put back and something made me test - really not sure what!

It came up positive, so I went back to bed and told DH who was absolutely over the moon!

DH works from home and was sitting infront of the computer, so I went in and waved positive test infront of the screen as I said 'I'm Pregnant!'- he went into shock, grabbed the stick by the wee-ey end (I'd forgotten to put cap thing on in excitement)and then had to go and scrub his hands. Nice!

Heh... My DH told me.

I'd had an early MC a couple of months before and we'd gone straight back to trying. It was a few days before AF was due and I wasn't expecting much, since the first time around had taken us a few months and I figured it was too early for a test yet anyway.

Woke up in the morning to have DH frog-march me to the bathroom where he insisted I take a test. I was pretty sure it was pointless, but indulged him nevertheless as it was waaay too early in the morning to debate!

Got a BFP for the LO that's due some time this month.

Apparently DH's main tip off that I needed to test had been that the cats had been acting strangely around me the night before. He also muttered something about me being hormonal... What did he expect around THAT time of the month?

I get the feeling he's never going to let me live down the fact that he knew I was pregnant before I did!!

Dp came home from work and was ranting about it being a horrid day.I handed him the test and said well i am going to make it the best day of your life. Your going to be a dad. He spent the rest of the evening with a massive grin on his face!

Nothing nearly so dramatic, I'm afraid! We'd only been trying for a few weeks, and I was one or two days overdue. It was also my birthday. I got up and did the test. Positive. I'd had a false positive a couple of years ago when we weren't trying, so we both just said: Okay, so that's a start, but let's wait and see what else happens. TBH, we were both pretty shocked and scared, even though we'd been trying. Just did not expect it to happen so quickly! Two more days, two more tests. At 4 months now, we're both over the moon, but it really was a scary moment when we realised it was for real!

We'd been trying for six months and had had an early miscarriage. I took a test one Saturday morning, while DH was at a conference. I rang him.

"I'm pregnant"

"Well done."

my DH told me too!

apparently i turned into a complete hormonal monster and he kept insisting i took a test. In the end I relented, just to shut him up and got a +

So i wrote a note

To Daddy
I'm going to be a big brother
love
DS

and then cajoled DS (then 18mths) into giving it to his daddy. DH's reply was... 'I've been telling you for weeks that you were!'
