Pregnancy

This is a new one - shaky after eating

This is my 4th pregnancy and I've had all sorts of lovely ailments, but this is a new one.

I find that just the same as ever, I get very hungry and just have to eat, but I can only eat really small child's portions or I feel like I'm going to be sick. I can live with that, though (it'll help my heart burn) but I've been feeling really sleepy after I've eaten and often have to go and have a lie down - which isn't always convenient.

But today, as well as the above, I've been shaking after eating (admittedly, it was after a packet of sweets) and feeling really rather ropey - clammy and really sleepy.

I've got my first visit to the midwife tomorrow, and I will ask then, but I was wondering if anyone had had similar experiences/any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

IS it when you eat anything or when you eat really sugary stuff (e.g. sweets)- it maybe that you just can't cope with that amount of sugar at the moment.

Definately talk to your midwife tomorrow though about it.

talk to your midwife about it, could be a massive sugar rush and your body is struggling at the moment.

Hmmmm - interesting. To be honest I've only noticed the shaking it after sweets today - but I will pay attention from now on, but the sleepiness happens after I eat eveything.

Incidentally, I am quite affected by low blood sugar when I'm not pregnant - so maybe it's intensified (if such things happen).

I'm happy to hear I'm not alone inzidoodle - but sorry to hear you're having it, too.

I do tend to eat really badly when I'm pregnant so I was hoping to go to slimmingworld tomorrow - not to lose weight, but I feel if I could follow a plan, I might not have these symptoms.

Will keep you posted - thank you for all your responses x

inzidoodle - do you think we might've answered our own question? Maybe healthy snacks and trying to keep blood sugar levels stable might be the key...

and def try eating regularly (even if that is a tiny snack every hour) and making it something that isn't going to give you a boost and then a big slump.

Eating regularly is always a problem for me - I'm pretty disorganised in the morning and never seem to really manage to sit down to eat breakfast - I generally grab what I can (I already have 3 kids under 5 and breakfast time is a bit manic - I spend most of the time sorting the kids out and then getting them dressed) if I'm honest, it's usually something unsuitable and sugary. I obviously need to get up earlier.

No, I'm not sure how you address the morning/post breakfast slump. If I get to slimmingworld and get some ideas - I'll post.

I went to the midwife today - and she reckoned it could be a sugar rush, or a sugar dip or it could have coincided with a dip in blood pressure. She said pretty much what you all did - try to eat little and often and keep a note of what you've eaten when it happens to see if there's a pattern.

I also checked out the peanut issue - peanuts are fine again - in fact it's now thought that a little exposure is what makes you not allergic. So peanut butter on toast for breakfast again

I have this all the time since closer to 30 weeks in this pregnancy, and didn't have it in previous pregnancies.

First I feel dizzy when I'm hungry and the baby starts kicking really hard and painfully, and then when I eat I feel all weak and nauseous, it feel like my heart is slowing down and I get out of breath.

But I have really low blood pressure, and was told it's likely to do with the blood rushing to my stomach and the pressure falling even more, that's why this feeling of exhaustion. So I just try not to eat too much in one go, and not get up and do anything active right afterwards.

Ah - LittleMs, that would make sense. And I've been having a weird heart flutter thing too - though not sure if it coincides. My blood pressure was fine when I had it checked today - but obviously I wouldn't know what it was the rest of the time. Yes - definitely small meals is the way forward, I think.

I hope you manage to stay feeling well.

I feel sick if I don't eat and sometimes super-sick/spinny/ohmygodwhatsgoingon if I eat too much in one go, not too much by normal standards mind you! but I have found that eating a cracker with primula squeezy cheese in a tube every hour pretty much kinda keeps me a bit more level! Have recently discovered Nairns Cheese oatcake biscuit thingys - they are fab! Im new to all this so thanks for making me feel like im not alone!

I'm glad I posted now. I thought I was just being strange but it's nice to know I'm not the only one!

Oatcakes sounds like a good idea - they often come in little wrappers, don't they so you can stick them in your handbag - good tip, thanks!
