Pregnancy

Urgent... Ectopic Pregnancies... Symptoms???

Sorry, noone answered on my Mirena thread so thought I'd start another coz I'm paranoid.

What are the symptoms of an ectopic and how early would they start????

I am having niggling, dragging pains in my lower abdomen and the odd shooting pain when I stand up too quickly. It feels a bit like a UTI and the symptoms started after I'd been to the loo, but I am having a pregnancy scare at the moment and have the Mirena coil fitted..... so I'm panicking.

Anyone help?

The pain caused by an ectopic pregnancy is unbelievable. I really thought my insides where on fire and about to explode. It hurt when I made the slightest movement and even breathing caused pain in my side.

Get yourself checked out by the GP asap.

I had a shooting pain in my left side when 7weeks, and was told that is a sure sign of ectopic.
the pain could be a normal sign of pregnancy however, or could just be coil related(but i don't know too much about that)
It could also be psychological..I'm not being mean, but it happens so ofteb that when you are very scared or worried about something the fear can manifest itself in 'phantom pains'.
if in any doubt, call nhs direct on 0845 46 47 they have always been really great for me

Definitely worth getting it checked out quickly. Can be really dangerous if left.
Again, good luck.

Thanks folks.

I'm very prone to rather nasty UTI's that sometimes have me doubled over in pain. I have had ectopic scares before because of this.

I'm going to do a test this evening just for my own peace of mind. In the meantime I'm just going to drink lots of fluids and hope I can flush it out my system.

I hope ypu are okay..either way. if you are pregnant and its all good will you be happy? or are you just worried abou the coil?

BoB - No I won't be happy if I'm pregnant. Pretty devastated actually. BUT there would be no question of the pregnancy going ahead. And if I am I really truly hope the coil hasn't damaged the baby.

Toothache if you are pg don't worry about the coil hurting the baby. You would either miscarry (sorry) or it would either drop out or just get lost. Don't google it, there are lots of horror stories but in real life the vast majority of pregnancies are absolutely fine. They would just scan you to see where the coil is, take it out if they can and if they can't they'll leave it alone.

This is so likely to be completely irrelevant as it so unlikely you are pg but if you are I don't want you to worry unnecessarily.

I am 13 post op ectopic and what happended to me was

period type pains a few days after conception
and from then on, I thought I was OK as had similar pains with dd.

Slight bleed, then nothing, then 2 weeks later woke up in such bad pain which caused me to go to the loo alot, feel sick and faint/sweat. The pain then became a sharp shooting pain as if I was sitting on a knife, by this time I went to hospital, whilst I was there the pain then went to my shoulder, the pain in the shoulder indicates a rupture.

I know what I have descibed is pretty frightening, but if you have any of these symptoms, please get them checked out, its not worth it.

I hope everything is OK for you.

aw...i wouldn't worry I have heard of plenty of women getting pregnant with the coil..its seems very strange but i'm sure you and baby would be fine
although unplanned I'm sure you could come round to the idea ...
baby on board now was very unplanned, i was taking the pill religiously but now couldn't want anything other.
good luck with whatever..and if it is just a uti i feel for you too..they are awful!

I had an Ectopic 3 years ago and the first sign that I had was spotting at 6 weeks. I knew that I was pregnant as I had tested positive.

I went to the Doctors and they said allwas fine that spotting can be normal in early pregnancy.

At 7 Weeks I had a terrible pain in my right side really sharp and could hardly walk but strangely that disapeared after 24 hours. For the next 3 weeks I Had bad pains like something was going to pop. At 10 weeks pregnant I was bleeding rather heavily and collapsed. Had large Ectopic pregnancy . Lost my right tube. If you have any fear that you have an Ectopic then get it checked out ASAP it can be a life threatning condition.
