Hi All,
I'm planning to get together a playlist for my upcoming hospital visit...any suggestions on inspiring music for the big event?

Not sure, any music would have completely done my head in

I'd say just choose stuff you usually like and listen to?

Not music that makes you excited or exhilarated apparently, as adrenalin can slow you down. Soft relaxing music is more what you are after.

My iPod list for the birth is skewed towards Sigur Ros, Kate Bush, Stornoway and Elbow, rather than The Pixies, Elvis Costello or The White Stripes (for example).

Not quite whale song, but getting there.

What sort of stuff do you like? I'm trying to get a playlist together - planning a homebirth and so far I've got some Simon and Garfunkel, Zero 7, and the Beatles 'Blackbird'. Fingers crossed it's an incredibly short birth as I've gone blank after that...

I made a massive playlist full of brilliant inspiring rock tunes/ nice soothing tunes and ended up using none of them, despite being in hospital for 30 hours.

I heard Savage Garden - Truly Madly Deeply yesterday so you may want to try that one.

I am now trialing it as a song I play to my bump, then when bump has arrived I can play it to help soothe bump as apparently bumps that hear the same tune everyday it soothes them as they can be reminded of the peaceful time inside you.

I have the feeling I just got hellish irritated with my playlist as was in labour for 10hrs and playlist was only about an hour long. 10 repeats of any song would probably drive you up the wall! So do make a longish playlist... and make sure whatever you play it on has batteries that will last long enough (can't plug in when at hospital, at least at ours you couldn't).

I echo the long playlist ides.

I had the Miserere by Allegri and Byrd's Masses for Four and Five Voices. Started playing at 8pm and DD3 bown at 7am. Even my mother admitted it was getting a little downbeat

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've got my blokes entire CD collection piled by the computer and am intending to start putting a playlist together tommorow.
I was hoping someone would make the effort to remember which song happens to be on at the actual moment of birth (Assuming it is still on) so that it will always have a special meaning for me...either that or I'll shudder everytime i hear it LOL

Hi Pagen
I think a playlist sounds great for the long hours of labour, but I wouldn't get too hung up about it.
By the time the "big moment" arrives, I expect you will be past caring what song is actually playing!!!
Happy compiling though!!
