23 weeks too late for anomaly scan?

Being a bit too laid back this time around I have only just checked how many weeks pregnant I will be for my 20 week / anomaly scan.

Based on last period I will be 23 weeks exactly - on scan measurements done at 13.5 weeks I will be 22+5 so pretty much 23 weeks.

I feel a bit uncomfortable with this. I am not one for pushing scans forward or rushing things in particular but 23 weeks seems rather late? I am aware it is very close to the 24 week point and that a number of babies born at that point do survive. It just feels too late?

Anyone else had one this late? It has been booked since my last scan at 13.5 weeks and isnt a case of them being too full up.

it's not too late for an anomaly scan in that it will show any anomalies just as clearly as at 20 weeks (if not more so) but i suppose if the scan did show up anything and you were considering a termination as a consequence you wouldn't have much time to think about it before 24 weeks. why was it booked that late?. you could try to have it moved forwards.

min was done this morning at allgedly 20+5 though i reckon more like 19 (and so did the sonographer) ...all fine, though i think they take a look for anything major at the dating scan too (though obv thre are things that wouldn't show that early)

Thats what I'm thinking - not too late for them to check but if anything shows up and they need to do more scans, extra test etc then its pushing it.

Of course I would never take a decision like this lightly but to me there is a big difference between 20 and 23 weeks. Kind of feel like the choice is being taken away from me (even if I am unlikely to do anything if that makes sense).

Relax. I am assuming you would consider a termination if there is a problem found and you would find it easier to terminate at 20 weeks than 23?

Depending on the extremity of the problem then it would be something I would consider (or think I would consider if that makes sense). Most likely I would not which makes this all a bit futile doesnt it

However yes I would be more comfortable at 20 rather than 23 weeks.

Legally you can still terminate for disability after 24 weeks if that's your concern.

In fact right up to term if doctors agree.

If its worrying you then you should try and get it moved forward.

it does get more difficult after 24 weeks though

Will just leave it I think - just a bit jittery which a few friends recently having issues at their anomaly scan. Thank you anyway.

I am with Kings in London and they always seem to schedule the anomaly scan at 22/23 weeks. And they are a leading hospital for sonography! I had mine at 23 weeks exactly. If anything, they will be able to see more at that stage. You will find though that the time between your last scan and the anomaly scan will be ages! But I don't think it's something to worry about..

This is my slight worry, my 12 week scan is at 15 weeks which makes me worry that my 20 week scan is going to be ridiculously late as well.

a friend of mine is in London and at King's they said they actually prefer to do them at 22/23 weeks because at 20 weeks it's a lot easier to miss things whereas a coupel of weeks later it's a bit clearer (or soemthing along those lines). they were pushing for it to be made a 22 week scan
