CVS - have you done it without necessarily being high risk?

During my last pg, my baby had a soft maker for Down Syndrome. (he was born without DS) I found it really stressful, but did not have additional tests. My OH would love another baby, but I can not go through the worry. Have you done the test with having a nuchal? If so, why?

Do you mean having the combined blood + nuchal fold ultrasound or do you mean having a cvs without having the nuchal fold measured?

Yes, basically I know in private clinics this is a possibility. Just thinking about it.

I had an amnio for a risk of 1:185 from combined nuchal, so now considered low risk on the nhs but I'm 37 and needed to be sure so went ahead with an amnio. I have a friend in Oz who had an amnio based on age risk alone - she is 38 - as she wanted to know for sure rather than base her decisions on risks/estimates.

For me it was a really difficult decision as I was so anxious about the possibility of a miscarriage. The other down side of course is that having an amnio/cvs that's normal doesn't guarentee a healthy baby.

clare I am in same position. First pg had one soft marker for Downs at 20 wk scan, decided not to have amnio but spent rest of pg anxious. This time I am going to push for cvs at 14 weeks, or go private. My friend in USA says it is standard procedure for women over 35.
