Dog walking

Hi all I am 10+6 and have 2 large dogs a Labrador and a Staffi x pointer. Both pull on the lead and I have to take both of them out on my own at the moment as my younger brother was doing it for me while he stayed with me but he has left now and my DH has 2 weeks left in Afghanistan before he is home. I have taken them out tonight but I worry that me getting stressed out and being pulled every which way will somehow cause something to happen. It will be fine once hubby is home because they dont pull half as bad when we have a dog each to walk!

try a halti
or a gentle leader

they work wonders on a lot of dogs.

tried all of them make no difference or the dogs just wont walk!!!!

how about looking in your local ads or yellow pages for a dog walker?

Another reccommendation for the halti here.... also works when pushing a pushchair in the future

I'd persevere with the halti or gentle leader - I use the GL on my dalmatian - he's mahoosive, and there's no way I'd be able to restrain him if I didn't have it on him. (I have problems with my wrists as well as being pg - not being able to walk my dogs would frustrate the hell out of me)

Most dogs protest at having it on for the first couple of times, but maybe try just taking them out, one at a time, for 10 mins each, and coax with food or a squeaky toy to encourage them? (if they're foodie dogs) Or play outside with them, with the headcollar on. They learn to associate it with going out.

Archie hated his to begin with, and used to lie on the ground, belly crawl, and rub his nose as he went...! Looked very bad!

Now when he sees it, he knows it's time for a walk, and he quite happily shoves his nose in it ready for me to clip up

Any chance you can take them out one at a time? Mine play up together but walked alone have nothing to say to anybody!

How about driving them to somewhere you can let them off the lead straightaway? Can they be trusted off the lead? I'd second the halti (the not walking, playing up is a trick- perservere! I have one for my very small, but very strong spaniel.) Also, the individual walking sounds good, except not so easy when you need to give them all an hour twice a day! When they start to pull, abruptly change direction. Keep doing it (boring I know) but it will get to the point where they will keep an eye on you as they won't knwo what you're up to!
