Officer, I'm having contractions......

Very, very naughty, and still can't quite believe I did this, but here goes....

Scenario: Me, heavily pregnant (34 weeks) driving w/ almost-three-year-old down a hill, saving on petrol, so letting the car 'coast' - unfortunately doing 45 in a 35 (live in the States) when I get pulled over by a cop...

Me (exiting car) 'Officer, I'm so sorry'

(Officer - quite young-looking guy - stares at heavily pregnant stomach and doesn't say anything)

Me (sees 1 chance in a 1000 to avoid fine) 'I think I'm having some contractions... ' voice trails away. I consider whether or not to fake moaning...

Officer - 'are you going to the hospital?'

Me (shit - is he going to offer to accompany me?!) 'no, I think I'm just going to go home and lie down and see if they go away.... and I've got my son with me.... ' looks, I think, convincingly pathetic...

Officer - 'go on your way, ma'am, just drive more slowly.' hurries back to car....

OK, OK, so it's not exactly WJWD but come on, there must be some perks to being third trimester pregnant...

(And before I get flamed by humour-removed people, can I state for the record that this is the first time in 15 years of driving that I've ever been pulled over; and I do understand that I should have been more careful, etc, etc....)

pmsl! I think it's funny and very clever. Just don't speed next time, as I'm sure the officer has mentioned to a few of the others.

It used to be the case in the UK that a pregnant woman, who was desperate for a wee, could insist on using a policeman's helmet, if no public convenience was available.

That's one I would love to have tried!
