When should I start to be concerned about weight loss instead of weight gain? I weighed when I found out I was pregnant (5/6 weeks), and weighed again this week (10 going into 11 Weeks) and have lost about half a stone in 4/5 Weeks.

I know it is quite common to lose weight in the first triemester due to sickness, but sickness has been getting progressively worse, and for the last 2 weeks especially I have been keeping very little down. Think I must be taking in a max of around 1000 cals a day at the moment, and that might be being generous by the time I've bought it back up.... Reading up though I'm sure/hope baby is getting everything it needs at the moment from whatever is in my system!

This is coming from a girl who suffered with an eating disorder late teens into start of 20s. (Never forced myself to be sick, just couldn't tolerate food, until I practically stopped eating cuz I didn't want to be sick anymore - but that is another story!). I think I'm starting to panic I'm going back to those days and that the sickness is in my head more than anything as I'm starting to dread eating even though I know this is different to then, and very normal! I just hate being reminded of what I used to be like....

Can't wait for this sickness to pass - just hope it does!!!!

Thanks Christiana. I'm taking Sanatogen Mother to Be at the moment which is folic acid plus 18 vitimans/minerals. Maybe they aren't helping either... hadn't thought of that!

I have been trying to eat a ginger biscuit first thing, but doesn't seem to be making much difference. So end up eating a bag of Salt and Vingear crisps when I get into work - they seem to stay down ok for the most part. DH has said he'll get me the travel sickness bands to try on his way home from work tonight, and I'll try and pull out that Yoga DVD I have somewhere to give that a go at some point today as my work has closed for snow again! (Blessings in disguise for extra rest these snow days as far as I'm concerned!!)

I have my first scan and booking in appointment on Monday (18th) so I'll mention all this then, although I'm sure I am just over analysing like you say and in a mere few weeks when sickness has gone I'll be moaning about feeling like an elephant or something!

Thanks for the suggestions!!

I lost a stone and a half in the first trimester this time, and I was reasonably slim to begin with.
I am now 20 weeks and have regained it and look/feel well.

I'd ditch the vitamins. They make it worse. Folic acid is important, so stomach that if you can, but not the others.

I am also and ex-ED sufferer, so understand your worries. However, you are having normal (though bad) pregnancy related sickness whhich in all likelyhooh will pass by week 14 ish.

In the meantime, you could ask your GP about anti-emetics. Emphasise how upsetting this is for you.

GOod luck. It will pass. I had hyperemisis and wanted to chuck myself under a lorry, but it has gone and it is so nice to enjoy food again.
