Going with a friend to her 12 week scan

She's got a history of ectopic pgys and has had two Trisomy 13 pregnancies terminated. This is her eighth pgy. She has 2 dcs.

She's having a very very rocky patch with her dh and feels she can't ask him to give two days off work to come with her to her 12 week scan. They're having a private scan the next day to which he's going and taking time of work.

She's asked me to go with her.

I'm happy to only I'm concerned if they do find something wrong (she's been told that they're looking very carefully at the nuchal fold at this scan), how can I best help her? What should I do? I'm terrified that I'm going to upset her more by saying or doing the wrong thing should there be bad news.

Any advice?

I'm guessing she'll just need someone to be with her, if it's bad news. She will already (sadly) know the options, and will probably just need someone there to either hand-hold, to whom she can talk or (hopefully) share her relief if things go well. As someone who went to my 12wk scan alone never expecting any problems and who got the bad news when on my own, that's what I needed...

she's lucky to have a lovely concerned friend like you. hopefully everything is great but if not i suppose just being there and listening is all you can do. really hope everything is as it should be x
