So.. i have been feeling my little boy kicking since about 16 weeks ish and for the past few weeks he has really taken it up a notch. He moves around all day AND night!
For about the past week i have had kicks so hard my tummy pops right out and a couple of times its really hurt, is this normal?!
My fiance thinks its funny and obviously loves the fact that he can already feel him kicking hard but i didnt realise it would be painful!
Will it hurt less when he has gotten a bit bigger so cant move as much or will it just get worse?
I had a scan last week and was told he is on the larger scale of the size he should be but that it wasnt a problem, so would this make him stronger? I have 3 other sisters who have had babies and dont believe i can feel it this hard!

In my experience (I'm 28 weeks), the movements will decrease as he gets bigger. Right now I feel a lot more squirming, rolling etc compared to the big kicks I used to get. I have heard people say that it gets stronger again in the latter stages though, as there's less amniotic fluid to cushion the LO's movements. Mine frequently feels like she's trying to escape through my bellybutton now, which feels very odd!

I'm 24 weeks, and my little one sometimes kicks hard enough that you can see my tummy move. It doesn't hurt, but can sometimes be a bit uncomfortable. I find he's most active in the evenings, when he likes to have a good old move around and bash me all over the place. I take it as a good sign that he's happy in there!

amyboo how are you doing? it's weird seeing your belly move isn't it? I'm sure I could feel a head/bum under my right boob last night

It was around 22-24 weeks that DS was really hurting with his kicks. I think he was big enough to have force, but small enough to be able to get momentum if that makes any sense?

Now at 26 weeks his is still quite wriggly but he is running out of space to really pull the leg/arm back and WHACK.

He does however particularly enjoy bouncing on the area where my bladder must be. Particularly at night and has done so since about 14 weeks.

Already a cheeky monster like his big brother .

Try grabbing the offending foot or elbow, and watch them squirm away, it's great fun.
Enjoy these moments (as painfull as they are), your little one may be a future England player.
DC5 which I'm currently 18wks with is obviously a lazy little whatsit. Not even felt a flutter yet, most unusual for me, heard a heartbeat on Tuesday though so know he/she is doing fine. just a bit chilled man! Obviously gonna be a peace loving hippy.

Hey Everyone,

I'm 22 wks (first pregnancy)and i'm still only feeling flutters/butterflies.
I know i'll regret saying this when it comes to be further on, but when will i start to feel the big movements?

It varies preggarschick, but I found that a week or two after first feeling the flutters they turned into little kicks that felt like poking, then another 2 weeks or so after that I was getting big kicks. The kind you can actually see from the outside

forgot to say in answer to your question..ds2 was a big baby 9lb 7 at 38 weeks and between 20-27 weeks would kick me so hard that I would literally launch out of the chair!..but as time went by..his movements decreased..I guess because he was so big..he simply didnt have the space

My DD was a real mover and shaker. She was tiny so kept it up right to the end (lots of room to prance around). DS was bigger and at the end it was more rolling and gentler nudges.

Hi Preggarschick,

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with my third at the moment and the movement with all my pregnancies has been very different and more noticable with each subsequent pregnancy which I put down to the stomach muscles not being quite what they were

With my first pregnancy it was really just fluttering and then shuffling/rolling towards the end (baby was 9lbs 6). With my second the movement was more noticable earlier on but not severe and again shuffling/rolling towards the end (baby was 7lbs) and with this one the movement is off the scale and quite painful.

On scans this baby is showing as average size. However, this baby bump seems a different shape to the other two so I guess the baby is lying differently, which is probably why I can feel (and clearly see from the outside of my stomach) much bigger movements. It wakes me up at night it is so painful.

With all this rambling I think what I am trying to say is that each pregnancy is different and how much movement you feel depends on how the baby is lying.

Just wondering at what stage I should be feeling regular movement? I'm 17+5 with number1 and for the past 2weeks or so have been occasional flutters and very occasionally a mini thud! But when should these become more regular? I don't always feel her every day. Thanks!

Hi. I don't know if I should be worried, but I am, pretty much all the time!

I'm nearly 40 and this is my first pregnancy. At over 21 weeks I've only felt the occasional flutter. It's been the same for a couple of weeks now, and might even be trailing off in frequency. I think I'm eating more than usual to mask my anxiety about it. And to keep myself awake!

At the 20 week scan they did say the placenta was at the front, but I was expecting kicks to get bigger, not smaller.

I would appreciate any advice.

Many thanks

Hi Itchy

I'm 22 weeks and also have an anterior placenta - second pregnancy to reach this stage, the first, with my daughter, was also anterior placenta. I have to say the movements I feel are gentle, far from kick-like, and that's how they were last time too. My daughter was small, and it looks like this baby will be too, and that combined with the anterior placenta means I don't get the hefty movements other people talk about. However I watched the baby somersault at the 20 week scan and couldnt feel it - I seem to feel movements most strongly to the side and low down, ie where the placenta isnt. And there are days where baby seems to hide behind the placenta!

If you are worried, though, I would ask a mw to listen in to the hb. And - my method - try annoying the baby into movement. Nonalcholic ginger wine, sugary things, and ice lollies seem to stir mine into activity. But I only felt gentle flutterings at 22 weeks with my first child, and this time they are a bit stronger, and I put that down to weakened stomach muscles, but even so quite gentle. Mw said all women feel movement differently.

Again though if ever you are worried, do see the mw.

Thanks for the replies, im glad lots of other people get this too, i feel much more normal now!
I guess i am just a wimp and i do hate to think how i will cope with labour if it hurts being prodded in the belly by a tiny baby hehe.
And you're right..it is definitely reassuring to be able to feel him moving all day, so i will just try to ignore the painful bits!!
