Present for sibling - doll for a 16 month old

I realise that this is a bit of a random place to stick this (and I may be REALLY over thinking it) but I am due in a couple of weeks and have a 16 month old DD. I want to get her a doll so that when I have a new baby to look after so does she. However - I haven't a clue about dolls and found looking at the rows of plasticness overwhelming. Can anyone recommend which one i get?

Feel free to tell me to close my eyes and grab the nearest plastic poutingness.

Hiya, I got my DS a doll from the ELC ('max' I think it's called?) a few months before DS2 was born so he could get used to what a 'baby' was. He played with it a bit and learned the word baby but that was about it! He was 21 months when DS2 was born so a bit older than yours but if I were you I'd just encourage DD to 'help' with your new baby (rather than a toy) to make them feel involved eg, give you bits of cotton wool, fetch the nappy etc. My DS1 helps with nappy changes and loves it, it's too funny when he tries to wipe his brothers balls LOL!

Good luck!

if shes already got a doll or special teddy/cuddly id suggest a toy carseat for it so that she has the whole bringing baby home thing.and maybe make up a changing bag-just simple with nappy, cloth wipe, sponge, muslin square.

Sorry for the late reply I had to go out this afternoon.

Thank you for your useful suggestions. She has a special teddy so maybe some paraphernalia to go with him would be good.

Thanks again

I'd also suggest a play pushchair. DD has had a variety of them (baby mad) but I don't think you can beat the cheap ones at about a fiver. They are lightweight and small so perfect for a 16 month old.
