head 2/5ths engaged at 36 weeks

I'm pregnant with my first and terribly uncomfortable. I'm on the toilet every 5 mins and keep getting terrible twinges in my cervix (or could be pelvis) - anyone know what this could be?
At my midwife appointment on Friday she said the head was already 2/5ths engaged so am hoping this means baby will be a bit early as not sure I can cope with the uncomfortableness for too much longer. Anyone know if this is early for the head to engage and if it means baby should come early or at least on time?

Hi,

DS was 3/5 engaged at 36 weeks, arrived 39+6!

Its a good sing baby has engaged and sympathies re the constant trips to loo, I had this too, was on crutches to walk due to SPD so was a bit of a nightmare but all so so worth it!

Mention the pains to MW, probably just baby engaging but deffo worth a mention anyway.

Hope all is well and good luck!

No advice, but I'm in an almost identical position to you oldboiler! 36 weeks (as of tomorrow) and the head has been 3/5 engaged for nearly two weeks now. Can sympathise with the frequent visits to the toilet and weird twinges. Am also hoping for an early baby, but it seems it is probably not going to be the case.

I will be uncomfortable and grouchy right along with you.

I was 2/5 engaged at 33 weeks and my baby decided to join the world at 36+2, however early deliveries seem to run in my family so I half expected it! Luckily I had a very straight forward labour so I have everything crossed for you!

Good luck and enjoy it!

Whilst it is a good sign that baby is engaged (you can stop worrying about breech babies/cord prolapse & a variety of other things!) please don't get excited about prospects of an early baby! Mine was engaged last time to varying degrees from 34 weeks (though never made it to fully engaged until mid-labour) and was born at T+11. I was convinced for various reasons she was going to be early too! It's as well to bank on going overdue and then it's a bonus if you meet baby early, imo.
