Hi ladies!! I am a first timer and therefore dont even know if what I am experiencing is contractions!

I am having pains in my lower abdomen...like period pains I suppose...but they are bringing a tear to my eye and I stop me in my tracks and I have to breathe through them. Over the last hour and half they have been 6/7 mins apart but not getting any closer as far as I can tell.

What should I do?!

Sorry never been at that stage so no idea, but bump for your post...

Whoever comes along and is experienced might want to know how many weeks gone you are?

Good luck!

Very exciting for you

My labour started the same way and carried on for about 10 hours like that before things really got moving.

Are you due yet? Is anyone with you?

Sounds like the beginning of labour to me. Why don't you call up the hospital and get an idea of how far apart the contractions need to be before you come in.

If they want you to wait a bit (first babies do take a while normally!), try a light snack and a warm bath.

Good luck!

OK - go to bed you will need the rest. Put the bag in the car now then bath and bed (eat in the bath if you fancy it ).

Make sure DH does not have a nightcap before bed! He might well be driving later.

I dont think I could sleep! Besides, they are hurting to much to sit through, I have to be up and about! DH doesnt drive so we will be calling a taxi if its time!

So you dont think I should call?! How long should I wait it out?!

WOW how exciting - sounds like labour to me!! Maybe just give the maternity unit a ring and explain your symptoms and ask for their advice. Try to relax as much as possible. With my DS3 I walked and walked for hours. Try to be positive and calm. Agree with an earlier poster - make sure you have everything ready and just by the front door in case you need to move quickly. Everything is crossed here for you - how exciting. Take care and let us know asap. Do you know if you are having a boy or a girl - have you got any names for bubba???

Just had a nosey on your profile - you are not very many miles from me I am in Bolton. You are also younger than my eldest DS (he's 27) now I really feel old

Sounding pretty positive emma. How exciting. I would wait as long as you possibly can to call a taxi because often people find things slow down again when in hospital.

Your shout though. Do whatever makes you feel most comfortable. I'd be tempted to do some cooking or cleaning to take my mind off it until you get to the stage where it requires 100% of your concentration, then go to hospital.

How very, very exciting. Best of luck and I look forward to hearing about your new arrival. xx

Oh yes...forgot to say....dont go into hospital right away!!! Agree with Spider keep finding little jobs and stay upright as much as poss! - How weird to think that probably about 15 miles (if that) separate us but you will soon be a mummy and I am looking after my first grandchild while his Mummy goes to work tomorrow. Try to stay as calm as possible xxxxx
