I'm 8 weeks pg and since 4 weeks have had hideous nausea. Its my second pregnancy and had fairly bad morning sickness with the first (not hyperemesis, but unpleasant anyway). This time seems worse because the nausea is constant. I'm bloody exhausted as I only get 3-4 hours sleep at night before waking up to intense nausea - thats the only way I can describe it. It's giving me palpitations and flushes, and I am struggling to drink enough as fluid in my stomach makes it worse. I have only been sick a few times so my GP says there's nothing they can do. I am wearing acupressure bands and taking 1000mg of ginger a day. Anything else? It's really affecting my ability to function.
PS Sorry to those suffering with hyperemesis, god knows that must be worse and you have my full sympathy. Doesn't stop me feeling rubbish though.

Hi beanstalk, this could have been me talking a few weeks ago. The nausea at between 7-9 weeks was literally all day and all night and like you I found it hard to do anything normal. I have to say it really affected my mood as well and made me feel quite down. I wish I could say that I had an answer but I didn't find anything myself. Last week (week 10) it suddenly went to fairly 'normal' morning sickness - I'm now sick each and every morning but do get the odd hour off in the day and can sometimes eat (that sounds crap doesn't it?!) but am feeling a lot better. The other thing I've discovered is that if I chew sugar free gum at all times I feel slightly better. It's grim as I can't bear people who chew all day long but it does help a bit, otherwise I keep getting this kind of vile metallic tasting saliva and I can't swallow so have to spit into a tissue . Not been much help have I?! - but you have my sympathies.

Your GP can help.
I was given beta blockers for severe morning sickness and I certainly wasn't as bad as you. Poor you - it is shite.

Get your ketones looked at - it's a wee test, and if you're dehydrating you may get some help.
I think it's luck of the draw with GPs - mine chucks anti-emetics at me.
I found the nausea worse than the vomiting, really, as at least you get a few minutes relief until the endorphins wear off.
Don't be fobbed off like that, as you have one child to look after already, and explain that you'd like to try some meds, if only to get a daily window or two in which you can function.

Thanks for the tips nicky and minou, I will go back to GP tomorrow determined! And Hangingbelly - the sympathy helps, just hearing someone else has come out the other side is good.

beanstalk, you could be talking about me. I am also 8 weeks. Anyway the midwife suggested sickness wristbands or accupressure writst bands. I was very cynical.

Got some, and they have def taken the edge of the constant sickness and I do get a few hours of normality. Also I still feel exhausted by it.

Best £8.00 i have ever spent.

My friend who was an air hostess use to wear them when she was in the air as she suffered from air sickness.

Hi - just to add - definitely go back to your GP, and if he continues to tell you rubbish along the lines that there's nothing he can do for nausea only actual vomitting (what??) then go an see another.

Also as for fluids - I found that switching from water to fizzy drinks (mostly fizzy water) helped enormously. It's a very easy thing to try and you never know it may help. Many of the anti-emetics totally knock you out, so if you take it at night you should at least get a good night's sleep - and that's the one other thing that I found really helped keep the nausea the next day at bay - a good 10 hour night.

I hope you feel better soon!
